Community Grants June 2022
We are pleased to announce that Trustees approved 22 grants with a total value of £479,200 at its meeting on 30 June. The grants included the following:
Based in Twickenham, Integrated Neurological Services (INS) provides clinical interventions and holistic support for people living with a long term neurological condition e.g. Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease, Stroke and acquired brain injury. The charity supports people for as long as needed and enables them to self-manage their conditions, maintain their independence, reduce social isolation, and achieve the best quality of life. Our grant of £26,500 will contribute towards the salary costs of the Rehabilitation Team who will be supporting over 130 people living in the local area.
Richmond Borough Mind provides a range of services and activities for people with mental health issues. These include a Helpline, a Wellbeing Centre providing support for people with complex mental health needs, Recovery Hubs offering out of hours crisis services, support groups to engage in activities, learn new skills and gain confidence through the Peer Group Networks, Counselling Services, and Youth Wellbeing Services running wellbeing workshops in schools and youth settings. Our grant of £40,600 will contribute towards salary costs of key staff delivering the services and activities that will benefit over 150 people in the local area.
Based in Richmond The Vineyard Community Centre provides a range of services for people across the borough who are homeless, in crisis, or disadvantaged. The services include a drop-in centre providing practical help and support to over 100 vulnerable people. including food, clothing and showers for homeless people or rough sleepers, a Community Nursing Service providing nursing care and referrals to a local GP, a Community Café providing space and support for those who are marginalised and members of the local community, a support programme for those who are disadvantaged helping develop skills and access to volunteering and employment opportunities. In partnership with The Trussell Trust the charity also manages the Food Banks in Richmond, Barnes, Hampton, and Whitton providing support for over 1,000 people and families experiencing food poverty. Our grant of £23,000 will contribute towards the salary of the Head of Care Services who has overall responsibility for managing the services.
This year we have provided an additional grant of £8,000 towards the work the charity is undertaking in collaboration with Refugees Welcome and Prosperity Ukrainian Response Hub in Twickenham to respond to the urgent needs of Ukrainian refugees who are living in the local area. The grant will contribute towards the costs of providing an English Language Course and support in accessing benefits and applying for jobs to help up to 50 refugees become independent and able to navigate life within the UK.
RAKAT CT is a local charity providing a community transport service in Richmond and Kingston. The charity maintains and operates a fleet of minibuses for use by community organisations, provides national accredited driver training and maintains a pool of trained volunteer drivers prepared to drive for community groups. Our grant of £22,000 will contribute towards the purchase of a new minibus for use by community organisations in the Hampton Fund area. The 15 seater minibus will be fully accessible with a passenger lift and space for 3 wheelchair users.
